Avengers doomsday · MD Avengers Doomsday Is Almost Here, and the Wait Has Never Felt Longer After years of anticipation, Marvel fans finally have a firm date to circle on the calendar. Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters on Friday, December 18, 2026, marking the team's first big screen outing since 2019. For a fanbase that has waited the better part of a decade, that date cannot come soon enough. The film reunites the Avengers for a story that spans far beyond a single universe. The official synopsis describes beloved heroes from three distinct universes being set on a collision course toward an existential threat unlike anything they have faced before. It is a fittingly massive premise for a movie that will stand as the thirty ninth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and share continuity with many of the studio's Disney Plus shows. At the center of it all is a villain decades in the making. Robert Downey Jr returns to the franchise, though not as Tony Stark, instead stepping into the role of Doctor Doom, in what is widely believed to be a variant of Iron Man from another universe. His return was teased subtly before any official confirmation, with a brief, face obscured appearance in the post credits scene of Fantastic Four: First Steps. The scale of the cast reveal itself became a moment of spectacle, as Marvel unveiled the returning stars through a slow burn stunt back in March 2025, printing each actor's name on the back of a director's chair. The roster assembled for this fight is enormous. The Avengers will be joined by the Wakandans, the New Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the original X-Men, all arriving from different corners of the multiverse to face down Doom. Behind the camera, it is a genuine full circle moment, since the Russo Brothers, who previously directed Infinity War, Endgame, and two Captain America films, are back to helm both Doomsday and its follow up.
